Sharpen first, even though you don’t need to. These do come very sharp out of the box, and as a new whittler, I didn’t realize how much of an even EASIER time I’d have using them after sharpening (with the stroop that comes in this kit). I watched some YouTube vids before doing that, and then it was like cutting through butter. My only wish is that the blocks came with some etched designs too, as it can be hard to choose what to start with and a little daunting wondering if you’re drawing something on correctly, yourself.
